Why Gossip Is Part of Our Day to Day Business

The rumor and gossip mill is part of our business.

I don’t know why it is, but rumors spread in this industry instantly. This business is the worst as far as gossip and things like that, everybody seems to talk to everybody.

Setting the scene: There’s a lot of communication going on. Sometimes it’s helpful.  As an example, I’ll be talking to somebody in a casual conversation and will say something like, ‘I got this scrap price is X amount, what do you get?’  It can be a big difference.  Maybe it’s how they share ideas on how they handle things or how they’re optimizing their business or whatever.

Key factor: Communication just is part of the business. It just helps all of us to be successful, so that’s the driving force. I guess it’s about profit and minimizing cost while optimizing sales. All that communication goes a long way because now we’re dealing with people with similar problems, similar challenges and we discuss how to overcome those challenges or problems for the better.
